Youtube Wrapped

I know I’m not the only one who thought 2024’s Spotify Wrapped was a little…off.

In my case, I can’t be too surprised: last year, I started listening to a lot of my music on Youtube, especially recorded live sets. It left me wondering: what would a recap of the year’s listening habits actually look like?

I did what your typical business school student who’s been using too much Excel would do to create my own custom Youtube Wrapped 2024:

• Downloaded my past year’s watch history from Youtube
• Converted the json to a workable Excel file
• Gave the data a good cleaning by removing any ads + random Shorts from the watch history
• Used pivot tables to analyze my top viewed channels, videos, etc
• Designed my own Wrapped “stories” (unlike Spotify, no AI was needed to come up with cringey quarterly vibe descriptions)

The result combines data + design that tracks my Youtube viewing habits in 2024.
